Book review 2

In continuation of my book reading fetish, I have completed 2 more books on the list, no 92 and 98. I am currently reading no 97.

90. On The Road, Jack Kerouac
91. The Godfather, Mario Puzo
92. The Clan Of The Cave Bear, Jean M Auel
93. The Colour Of Magic, Terry Pratchett
94. The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho
95. Katherine, Anya Seton
96. Kane And Abel, Jeffrey Archer
97. Love In The Time Of Cholera, Gabriel García Márquez
98. Girls In Love, Jacqueline Wilson
99. The Princess Diaries, Meg Cabot
100. Midnight’s Children, Salman Rushdie

As I am borrowing books, I have not been able to complete the list respectively according to the numbers but will try to keep it within sections of 10s.

Girls in Love

After The Princess Diaries, I found Girls In Love to be a slightly slower reading. I think my American based movie upbringing made it abit harder to understand British humour. It was just as short a story as Princess Diaries but unlike it, I did not feel the desire to get the follow ups to the series.

I give the book 2/5.

The Clan of the Cave Bears

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I had no idea what the story was and had not bothered to read the synopsis of it before I started. Instead, I just went straight into it and was totally hooked after the first few pages. Initially, perhaps because I had been reading all these teen books, I somehow expected it to be quite similar – a fantasy book for teenagers. However, that is not the case at all. The story is based on a young homo sapien separated from her clan and who found her way into a clan of neanderthals. It follows her struggle to fit into the clan and the clashes between the two different humans types, one heading for extinction, the other for survival. This is the first series of 5. I actually managed to get hold of the second book following the series at a second hand bookstore for only $5 so am mighty happy bout that :)

I rate the book 4/5.

I also bought Time Traveller’s Wife and IT (by Stephen King). I have read IT and watched the movie (as mentioned in Scary Movies entry) – but it has been a while so I think reading it will be like visiting a childhood memory somewhat…in a sadistic way of freaking myself out.

I have also been reading Asterix comics which I managed to borrow from the local library. I must admit I understand it a whole lot more now compared to when I read it as a teenager. I don’t think I paid much attention reading it when I was younger, instead, choosing to just look at the cartoons.

Currently I am reading Love at the time of Cholera. So far so good. I must say I am quite happy with the book list. Most of the time when I am in a bookstore looking for a good book to read, I never know what to get. With the book list, I feel like I can be somewhat guaranteed that the book I pick up will be good. It covers so many different genres as well which keeps my interest piqued.

It sure does feel good to find time to read again.
